Seasons

A number of factors go into a couple’s choice of wedding date, some of them are practical and some are more sentimental. Summer is the season in which the greatest number of weddings take place for several reasons. First, there is the folklore belief that it is auspicious to marry in June. Second, if you want to have an outdoor wedding ceremony or reception, the summer is the season in which you can be the most certain that the weather will be suitable for outdoor festivities. In fact, some outdoor wedding venues, such as botanical gardens, are only available for weddings from April until October, and in places where the weather is cold for much of the year, they may have an even shorter season than that. Third, if you are inviting a lot of guests who live out of town to your wedding, it will usually be easiest for them to travel in the summer when their children are not in school. Of course, there are also plenty of reasons to choose a season other than summer for your wedding. Perhaps you want your wedding pictures to be full of cheery spring flower buds, romantic autumn leaves, or majestic snow-covered landscapes.

Considerations in choosing your wedding day

Special Occasions

Dates that are already special occasions are also popular. Some couples would love a Valentine’s Day wedding, while others would prefer a Halloween wedding where all the guests attend in costume and a spooky good time is had by all. Some couples choose a wedding date that has sentimental value. For example, if you and your fiancé both have birthdays in March, you might choose a wedding date in March. That way, March can be a big family holiday for you, with two birthdays and an anniversary. You may choose to get married at Christmastime because it is a time when your relatives from out of town will be in town anyway. November to March is considered the off-season for many wedding venues, and therefore it may be less expensive to rent your favorite venue at that time.

Timing – Sooner or Later

There is also the practical consideration of choosing a wedding date that is not too close but not too far away. You want to choose the date far enough in advance that guests from out of town can make travel arrangements. You don’t want to drag out the wedding preparations too far, because spending more than a year on wedding preparations can make marriage seem like a chore before it starts; it takes away from the real purpose of a wedding, which is to start your life as a married couple and to celebrate your marriage in the presence of your family and friends. Another reason to choose the soonest available wedding date is that some couples do not want to move into their apartment together or enter into financial agreements (such as a mortgage) together before they are legally married. In that case, it makes sense to choose a wedding date that is less than six months before their wedding date, because marriage is a much truer source of happiness than weddings are.

Preserving the Memories

No matter which season you choose for your wedding, it will be the source of many special memories. After the wedding there will be many things to take care of, including thank you notes and selecting your favorite photographs. Wedding gown preservation is another way you can preserve the joyful memories of your wedding for future generations. An increasing number of brides choose wedding gown preservation so that their wedding dress can be the “something borrowed” at a younger relative’s wedding or simply so that their wedding dress can become a keepsake for future generations. One of the common myths about wedding gown preservation is that it is expensive. Wedding gown preservation is more affordable than many people realize and is worth considering to save and preserve your wedding dress for years to come.
